Don Giovanni in National Theater in Prague

On 29 October 1787, 227 years ago, Mozart conducted the premier of Don Giovanni on the very same stage of Stavovské theatre I saw —in new, modern coat. And it was brilliant.

I love classical music, I love ballet, but opera had never really been my cup of tea. My favourite always had been Rusalka, maybe mainly because it was very emotional moment for me. But Don Giovanni totally galvanized me, it totally blew my mind—not only that the story was drawing me in and fast paced (unlike many Italian operas). But the costumes, the dance, the stage - so raw, so minimalistic, just superb!
