Two months in China

China has one of the most peculiar cultures I came across in my life. I entered in China after a year of living and travelling in Asia with some idea what I can expect. Honestly I hadn't been that surprised neither after coming to India nor Burma; and believe me that was some culture shock.

I would leave disappointed if I had just the two weeks visiting the famous and tourist places: Beijing, Xian, Shanghai. Chinese in China are just so different than Chinese outside of China: loud and rude. They never smile,  spit in the streets, and eat so loudly. And always take picture of you secretely... That would be all I would tell my friends when coming back. I wouldn't have the stories about those amazing strangers letting me sleep over at their place, giving me food,  being curious, buying me a dinner, giving me a ride. And that while they didn't know any English... It is just so hard to get under the skin of ordinary people.

I started in Shanghai getting lost in narrow longtangs. I travelled along the valley of Yangtze river through Hangzhou, Suzhou, Nanjing, beautiful Huangshan, and Wuhan. I hiked along the Three Gorges of Yangtze. I visited Chongchinq where I ate the spiciest food in the world. Then I travelled up to Chengdu and hitchhiked beyond. I climbed up to 5000 meters and on the borders of Tibet I saw the bluest sky in the world. I was almost eaten by wild dogs here. I saw wild horses and slept with monks and wolfs. Then I went to Xi'an, Luoyang, Zhengzhou, Kaifeng to appreciate the religious history of China. Finally, I stayed almost two weeks in Beijing: I spent hours walking by night through the silent hutongs. The final highlight of the trip was a three day climb of the Great Wall. I loved my time in China.
